Off Grid Cabin- Hot on the Trail!
thank you so much for your awsome video, can you tell me the name of flowers that used?
Thank you.
If you use a small pan (like the single egg ones) and an electric hot plate to melt the petroleum jelly, it will saturate the entire cotten ball. Remove it with tweezers and put it on an aluminum foil sheet to cool, then wrap them in the foil to contain the petroleum. These WILL drip when lit, which will soak into things below it and absolutely torch anything above it like napalm. I have never once failed to start a fire with these, even with logs taken straight from snow. But definitely DO NOT breathe the black smoke in! Note that these can actually be a little harder to light because they are so saturated. I carry dry cotten balls and soaked cotton balls, then wrap a soaked on in a dry one before lighting it.
_Dryer lint smudge stick._ Even fun to say! 😂 Awesome experiments! Nice work!
I go for mine in 2 weeks, Afib with SVTs with flutter. Thanks for your insight.
I'm scared I'd need surgery for mine
Fun video, Jen. If you are a woodworker, or know one, you can bring a bag of shaving from a hand plane. Nice thin, dry starter material you can bring in a baggie.
Cool lighter there Jen . I stick to the couglans fire starter sticks.
Well done. Xx
Thank you! 😊
Ok I draw the line at touching poop sorry that's just nasty id rather go without a fire!🤮
Haha I know eh! I did it so you don't have to.
good demos
Thanks for watching!
Fun! Thanks for testing them!
Glad you like them!
Do the Doritos smell good when they're burning? Crunch 😅 I have a (plasma) lighter like your for lighting my candles. Don't forget the chapstcik. Works as good as vasoline. Keep it burning. Good to see you.
No they don't smell good! Chapstick. Gotta try that one. Thanks for watching
I have read about these methods, but a picture paints 1000 words.Thank you for the excellent and potentially life saving information.
Thanks for watching. I had to try them too to see for myself.
Love this episode and seeing all the various techniques!!! I didn't even think about hand sanitizer ... thanks!!! Definitely love this type of content to throw in with your normal mix!!
Glad it was helpful!
Vaseline or hand sanitiser on cotton balls will also start easily with a ferrocerium rod.
Yes, I should have experimented with that. I had my mora knife and ferro beside me in the video too! Totally forgot to try it out with the cotton balls.
Great stuff CJ, although the dog hair only smolders it might keep the local wildlife away thinking that some kind of ritual is being performed and steer clear lol 😂🤣👍😃✌️💪🔥❤️
Good point!
Excellent! I’ve always wondered which is best. I saved dryer lint for about a year and then used the whole thing on one green wood pile 😂 looks like Vaseline/cotton balls is the way to go. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, I was surprised how well the Vaseline technique worked. I want to experiment now with different ways to repel bugs.
The cotton ball and Vaseline will be my go too for sure. I will never eat Doritos again.
LOL! I know eh. I just love Doritos too much to quit eating them. Haha
That was interesting. The deer poop experiment was akin to the burning of buffalo/cow "chips" in an old western. I am guessing that winter deer pellets might work better due to the more wood fiberous diet. The dryer lint can burn well but it does not last. Thanks for the video.
Yeah, I'm going to try rabbit and old moose poop too. I'm determined to make ot work. Thanks for watching.
@@TheWildYam Given that hares are coprophagous, the second digestion ones might be better. Beaver would also be a source. Admittedly, it is a novelty fire starter, IF it works. But you could find a lot of them in a winter moose yard!
We use white pine cones. A lot of creosote in a pine cone. Wife collects a bunch before an outing. If that doesn't work, charcoal lighter fluid. Thanks for your ways of starting.
Great tip! Thanks for sharing!
I've been going to try hand sanitizer, I actually had a bottle in my hot tent last winter as a backup to try but I only ever used it to clean my hands lol. I did use vaseline and cotton balls a few times I usually have a old pill bottle full of these in my pack , light weight and works great. I have used dryer lint , but I honestly don't find it works well, pretty much the experience you had, need to add something I've added Vaseline too. Interesting to use as a insect repellent might try that. Ive always wanted to try battery and steel wool, but hasn't seem practical to carry along, after seeing your video I think ill just keep in the memory banks lol. Can't light my potato chips they are too good lol. Great video interesting for sure. Hope you have an awesome week
That's a good idea to put them in an old pill vial. You could cram a lot in there. Thanks!
Awesome demonstration, Jen! I use the cotton ball/Vaseline starters all the time at home for the wood stove, BBQ, smoker, et al. My method is to reverse a baggie, put my hand inside, scoop out a blob of Vaseline and turn the bag right side out again before inserting a dozen or so cotton balls, and zipping it up. NO MESS on the hands while massaging it all together. Also - the steel wool needs to be 0000 (four ought) in order to work. It has much more surface area and works *extremely* well. I save my wife's old candle jars, melt the remains on the wood stove, and pour the paraffin over several layers of paper towel. I let it cool and cut into strips to put in my survival pack. Also useful for starting a bigger campfire or bonfire. Thanks for the video, Jen!! Hope you're staying dry!! We're waterlogged here just above Newmarket!! ❤❤
So rainy here too! Great tips. Thank you so much. I like experimenting with different methods of fire starting.
00 and 000 may also work, and are less prone to rusting from humidity, but I haven't tried them recently. Also. The battery only needs so contact the wool for a brief moment; you could also quickly slide the battery along the wool for minimal discharge time, but a wide ignition area.
@@realfutbol1 I've had an opened bag of 0000 in the (unheated) garage for at least five years, and there's little to absolutely NO sign of rusting yet.
Be careful using them little cheap lighters cause sometimes the flame doesn't go completely out! Thanks for all the great tips on starting a fire! See ya in the next one!! 💙💜💙
Thanks for the warning. Thankfully hasn't happened to me yet but I'll be careful.
@@TheWildYam Yvw!! 🤗💗
i add to my coffee as needed, tastes great!
Sounds great!
Excellent video! I am an Electrophysiology tech (assistant) student and I greatly appreciated viewing this from your/patient perspective. An SVT ablation was the first procedure I ever observed and it is remarkable to watch and see the benefits first hand. So happy to hear of your recovery and good health! Your video will continue to help others for years on end. Speedy recovery and good health wishes to all!

Being a RAV4 Hybrid...from what I've read, you should be able to operate the heater, or A/C, through the night, just as Prius owners are able to do ("Hotel Prius" mode), when ambient temperature conditions require. That's a good option to have!
Hi Jen! I’m going to be car camping in my RAV for the first time tomorrow night. I’m so excited! I have learned so much from your videos and love your set up!! I hope to get mine like that by the end of the summer. I definitely need to build a platform for my bed. Would love to see how you did yours! I’m in New Brunswick, you should come camping this way sometime :)
Have fun! May visit this summer. I haven't decided yet.
Thank you for sharing. We are just two weeks in to the treatment for this. Nice to see there is light at the end of the tunnel. Our dog has lost his sight along with all the other symptoms. Do you know if there is much hope of that returning?
I'm so sorry to hear you too are going through this. I'm not sure about the prognosis for vision return. I have heard of one dog that went blind from blastomycosis but still runs in the woods with its owner daily. They Can adapt really well if it doesn't come back. Sending good wishes.
@@TheWildYam Thank you for that💕
Super interesting! Have you ever come across them growing wild in the bush?
No I haven't seen them in the wild.
Do you have a link for the car shade??
👍👍👍CJ 😃✌️💪
Thanks for the visit
Mr. Tadpole is a big guy. In south central Texas, I’ve only see tiny tadpoles. Great video. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this. (Short and sweet!)
Literally! You're very welcome
Thank you. I think these are called honey berries in Texas.
Thank you Jen. We never heard of those berries.
This is not a surgery. You should change the title.
We call them honey berries in the states.
I hope I can find one of those bushes. Looks so good! Thanks, Jen.
Thank you for the video 😊
This also works with clematis plants 🌱
To start as many as you want cut the new shoots of at the 5 or 6 leaf 🍃 stage cover to the last 2 in damp soil and you will have a never ending cycle of new plants, take some to the cabin because the price is wright.never tried the water 💦 in a glass with the slip of honey suckle and enjoy the pie in 3 years time.
That jam looked very good .
I tried to find / buy these some years ago with no luck. They're still not overly available in nurseries near me. Hopefully that tide is turning. Think you have to have 2 plants for pollination, if memory serves. The jam looks delicious. Have a great week!
Refer to these also as honey berries, french call them camerises. Checked on 2 young ones placed in full sun a month ago, no berries yet. .Will eventually make coulis ice cubes as I do with riverbank/ frost grapes, only 1-2 tbsp sugar per cup. No big gooseberry yield in 4 years, transplanted a couple of nan king cherry saplings, pondering how to clone weeping white mulberry! Yum😋
I have never seen these…I wish we had them. We have honeysuckles, but not these. So cool, and looks yummy! ❤️🐾🐾🥾🥾😎
Did u do monovision? If yes, how do u like it? Thanks.
Frozen plate? Where have I been? I drop into ice water. Awesome video. Would love to try. 👍😎🇨🇦
